Our projects are designed to address the real needs of rural communities through training, innovation, inclusive participation, and sustainable development approaches. We work closely with farmers, women, youth, schools, development partners, and local institutions to create long-term positive change.
AgroKilimo Project
Duration: 2025 – 2027
About the Project
AgroKilimo Project is a two-year project funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of France in Tanzania. The project aims to strengthen the national ecosystem of agroecology experimentation and demonstration centres by developing shared principles, harmonized protocols, and operational networking mechanisms at national and international levels.
The activities are coordinated by Iles de Paix (IDP), an international NGO supporting agroecology transitions in food systems across Tanzania. The project aligns with the National Ecological Organic Agricultural Strategies (NEAOS), particularly in enhancing institutional capacity for research, training, and extension systems in ecological organic agriculture.
Context
In 2023, approximately 10,000 farmers were directly trained in agroecological intensification across the six participating centres. Among them, 55.1% were women and 44.1% were young people under 30. The indirect annual impact reached around 50,000 people. Additionally, nearly 200 agricultural technicians were trained, each serving around 2,000 producers.
Target Groups
The project involves six national NGOs and training centres: Mogabiri Farm Extension Centre (MFEC), Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT), Practical Permaculture Institute Zanzibar (PPIZ), SJS Organic Farm, RECODA, and Iles de Paix (IDP). It also works with the Agroecology Hub Tanzania at Sokoine University of Agriculture, including researchers, students, farmers, and agricultural technicians.

- Conduct a national assessment of existing agroecology centres and analyze their governance, research practices, and approaches.
- Develop shared research, training, and extension protocols and establish an operational agroecology network.

Rural Development in a River Valley Project
Duration: July 2025 – June 2028
About the Project
Sustainable Livelihood Development of Rural Communities in Tarime District is a three-year project funded by Bread for the World – Germany and the Anglican Diocese of Tarime. The project aims to achieve sustainable improvements in the living standards of rural communities in the Mara River Basin.
The project focuses on enhancing climate resilience, promoting gender-responsive adaptation, and increasing youth awareness and involvement in addressing gender inequality.
Target Area
This project is implemented in 10 villages in Tarime District. Ongoing villages include Kembwi, Surubu, Keisaka, Kitenga, Kwisarara, Turugeti, and Nkerege, while the new villages are Korotambe, Kubitere, and Nyakangara.
Target Beneficiaries
The project intends to directly reach 1,170 beneficiaries, including 500 smallholder farmers through 30 farmer groups, 70 people with disabilities, 250 youth, and 350 primary school pupils from class four to seven. The project gives strong attention to women, youth, and vulnerable community groups.
